Beskrivelse: Det blæste en 12-15 m/s så derfor var vi lidt bekymrede over om aftenens hovedattraktion ville dukke op, men efter fem timers var den der pludselig.

I don't think this is the first Blakiston's Fish Owl on Netfugl , Hans... - or on Hokkaido for that matter.
By the way , it is highly recommendable to see the rest of the pictures following the links above , they are absolutely spectacular!!
Cheers
Jon
You are right, JON.
AURÉLIEN Audevard showed an EMINENT ('incroyable!')
photo of 15th Feb. 2010 of BLAKISTON - on NETFUGL.
But, admittedly, it is not easy to trace non-WP
species on NETFUGL.
STEFAN's photo is equally magnificent and
spectacular - with harsh look and tossed ears!
Most Owls have rich feather- and 'hair' growth
around the bill - to FEEL in the dark.
Both photos show that Blakiston has an almost
'naked' area above bill/betw. the eyes.
Herzlichen Dank, STEFAN ......... C.

Avec ERLING: Incroyable!
ÉMINENT en detailles, expression
et personnalité brusque.
PS :
Can You add some details to this
picture ?

Mes Meilleurs Compliments !
...............C.
And that's the case...! Morten , pay a visit to Aureliens vebsite http://audevard.aurelien.free.fr/ and you will find several other fotos of the owl sitting in the snow eating fish...
Morten,
Being a bird-taxidermist myself, I can attest to the fact that if I, or any other taxidermist in the world, could make such a stunning....yes truly "incroyable" mount.....this person would become legendary in the profession.
The bird is beyond doubt a live one....and Aurelien: You can add me as a member of your 'fan-club'.....
Regards
Peter
Hi All,
Thanks a lot for your compliments. It's a real blakiston's fish Owl perched low on a branch above snow covered ground like Simon said.
This picture has been taken near rausu, in front of the Minshuku Washi-no-yado. A pair of this owl come every evening to fish in a small pond in the middle of the river.
30 pairs of this species nest each year in Hokkaido
Have a good night !
regards
Auré
