Beskrivelse: Dunn's Lark ssp. dunni: we found this species to be fairly common in suitable habitat along the road from Dakhla to Aousserd. Even a very tame juvenile was lucky enough to escape from under our shoes just in time!
More information on the Western Sahara can be found in the report of P. Bergier on http://www.go-south.org/
Beskrivelse: In Belgium caspian gulls are a rather scarce winter visitor, especially to the east of the country. More pics of Belgian caspian gulls on http://belgiangulls.webs.com/caspiangull.htm
This must surely be a first-winter male or what?
Female variegatus should show much less white to the bases of the tail-feathers according to this.
Best wishes, Rune

Hi, I understand the Grackle was seen again on Sunday 20th April. Can anyone (Pieter?) tell us whether it is being seen regularly in between 8th March, 27th March and 20th April and if so the precise directions to favoured area.
Really keen to pop over and see it so any help posted here would be very gratefully received.
Thanks
Justin
Hi Justin,
the bird isn't been seen regularly; not between 8th and 27th march (the days after 8th march were very stormy and rainy so no one searched), a few times just after 27th of march and then again on 20th and 21st of april.
About the favored area, i hope your mail-adres mentioned in your profile is still valid, i just forwarded an email i have sent yesterday to some other interested people.

Dear Pieter,
Just to let you know what is going on:
Some guys discuss whether your treecreeper is a short-toed og a "long-toed". I think you are right, that it is a C.f. macrodactyla (= "long-toed" of the Western and Southern European supspecies). But they are difficult.
Regards
Knud Flensted
Thx
the species is difficult indeed, certainly 'our' subspecies. The pic is taken in the east of Belgium where both short-toed and eurasian breed. Short-toed is a common breeder all over Belgium, Eurasian (macrodactyla) only breeds the east and the south. the nominate of Eurasian is a rarity in Belgium (mostly near the coast). The macrodactyla subspecies of Eurasian is in this context more difficult to recognise. I have noticed before that the coloration on the wing coverts is in some way variable, in my opinion (things that are also easier to see in the field) short-toed should have greyer underparts contrasting with the whitish throat, more brownish wash on the rear flanks, less contrast between outer and inner web of tertials, less rufous upper tail,... so i'm pretty sure this is a Eurasian. I'm happy to send other pics of the bird if needed.

Beskrivelse: This glaucous gull (probable female) has wintered for its 11th consecutive winter in the fishing harbour of Ostend, Belgium. As the dutch name of glaucous gull literaly translated is "great mayor", it has been nicknamed 'Jean' like the real mayor of Ostend.
Beskrivelse: The 2nd lesser scaup for Belgium was at the inland lake of the Gavers at Harelbeke - W-Vlaanderen from the 1st of december 2007 till the 9th of january 2008.
Beskrivelse:
This grey catbird was found near one of the big locks of the Antwerp harbour on the 15th of december 2006. It was still present on the 16th when i could make this picture (in rainy weather...). It is accepted by the Flemish part of the Belgian rarities comity as the first grey catbird for Belgium. For new species for Belgium, acceptance by the Walonian part is needed too, which hasn't happened yet.
