Beskrivelse: A fantastic bird which was encountered at a number of localities during our cruise through northern Oman. An interesting observation we made was that quite often desert wheaters were stalked by desert warblers! It seems quite common for these two species to be living in some sort of symbiosis at the winter quarters on the Arabian Peninsula. If you spot a desert wheatear in shrubby habitat in Oman, always make sure to thoroughly scan the ground around the wheatear for desert warbler!
During a recent trip with the Danish Ornithological Society to NW India we also noticed this behaviour on a few occasions in the desert around Jaisalmer. Although there were several other species of wheatear in the area (Isabelline, Variable and Redtailed, with Variable the most common), the Desert Warblers seemed only interested in the Desert Wheatears.
