Are you sure this is not a Louisiana Waterthrush? Normally the eye stripe of the Northern is not so strong behind the eye. On Northern I tend to find it more symmetric over the eye. Also, with Northern, I would expect the stripes on the breast to be thinner and denser. These are just my feelings based on seeing lots of both species in Central Park (NYC) over the years. My instinct says Luisiana, but I could be wrong. Sometimes it is clear cut, but sometimes I am not 100% sure.

I agree with Mikkel. Its eyebrow is quite broad and seems to widen behind the eye. On Northern it's typically narrower and tend to be buffyish there. Another indication for Louisiana is its unspotted, white throat.

The ID of this bird was actually discussed on the Island of the same reasons as stated above. However two photos of the same bird in a perhaps better light can be seen here. In my opinion it looks "more" normal for a northern on these photos? Regards, Jens

Despite the ongoing disput about Northern versus Louisiana, I wonder what's the real latin name of this bird since in the headlines it's called both Seiurus noveboracensis and Parkesia noveboracensis ?
