Hi everybody, Don't you think this is a Tawny Eagle Aquila rapax (of the Indian subspecies vindhiana), and not an Imperial? The head may look similar to an adult Imperial, but check the underwing coverts, and the type of barring of the flight-feathers and tail and you will be convinced that it cannot be one. The plumage and proportions only fit an adult Tawny.

Hey Dick. You are absolutely right, a Tawny it is – of course. To be honest, I never considered Tawny at sight. I just ruled out Steppe Eagle and apparently focused too much on what seemed like a clear pale window between primaries and secondary’s and then got locked on to Eastern Imperial… To my knowledge Tawny Eagle has become increasingly rare in Keoladeo NP in recent years (I guess it’s more common to the west in India).
